The earliest meeting held in the Dorset market town of Bridport, close to Chesil Beach, was on Friday 28th June 1867 and was the brainchild of Mr Bullen the landlord of the Prussia Hotel to celebrate Coronation Day. The course, opposite Lee Cottage on East Road, was in fields owned by Mr G Miller of Bradpole, and included a grandstand which was available for 18d. The second meeting was on Monday 29th June 1868 opening with the Purse won by Light of Other Days, owned by Mr S Seymour. The final meeting was staged on Monday 28th June 1869.
